The first event arranged for the Majorca getaway is set to take place at Galería Pelaires. Established in 1969 by Josep Pinya, it is the longest-running contemporary art gallery in Spain. It has featured works by the best artists in the world, and its origins are closely linked to the worldwide acclaimed Joan Miró.
Galería Pelaires has not only been the gateway to the island —and often to Spain— for great artists of international prestige, but also the best showcase for the work of Balearic artists. Its director, Frederic Pinya, will tell us more about its history, the artists it has worked with and its current project, which clearly reflects how the gallery has always adapted to and been ahead of art trends over more than 50 years. Fernando Gómez de la Cuesta —an art critic at ABC Cultural, independent curator, researcher and teacher— will also join us on our visit to the gallery. He holds a degree in Art History and in Law from the University of the Balearic Islands and the University of Barcelona, respectively. He is currently presiding over the Association of Curators and Art Critics of the Balearic Islands.
